Vietnam Veterans Buy Ads to Attack Kerry

Hoffman, who is retired and who says in the advertisement, "John Kerry has not been honest," acknowledged that the men in the advertisement did not serve on Mr. Kerry's boat, but he said their time in parallel boats on coordinated missions, or as Mr. Kerry's superiors, made them valid commentators on his record. The group provided station managers with a 13-page memorandum, backed up by more than 60 pages of sworn statements, book excerpts and military records.

"We were on the same operations, we were operating within 25-50 yards of him all the time, and for them to suggest we don't know John Kerry is pure old bull," Mr. Hoffman said. "He has made this the centerpiece of this campaign, and we just don't think he's qualified to be the commander in chief of the armed forces. We have every right to be heard."

(...)A doctor, Louis Letson, repeats accusations he made in newspaper interviews this spring that Mr. Kerry did not deserve his first Purple Heart because his wounds resulted from a ricochet off friendly fire, saying in the advertisement, "I know John Kerry is lying about his first Purple Heart because I treated him for that injury." The Kerry campaign pointed out yesterday, as it had previously, that another doctor, J. C. Carreon, signed Mr. Kerry's treatment record.

(...)Further, the "doctor" who appears in the ad, Louis Letson, was not a crewmate of Senator Kerry's and not the doctor who actually signed Senator Kerry's sick call sheet. Letson is not listed on any document as having treated Senator Kerry after the December 2, 1968 firefight. The question is:

Did Louis Letson treat John Kerry for that injury?

And, the answer was FUDGED. Letson said, “. . .I treated him for that injury.” ("That injury" meaning the first Purple Heart injury) He didn’t say he signed a document; he didn’t say he was a doctor at the time. He said he treated him for THAT injury.

Where is the answer to the question?

Dear Station Manager:

We are counsel to the Democratic National Committee and John Kerry, respectively. It has been brought to our attention that a group calling itself "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" has bought time, or may seek to buy time, on your station to air an advertisement that attacks Senator Kerry. The advertisement contains statements by men who purport to have served on Senator Kerry's SWIFT Boat in Vietnam and one statement by a man pretending to be a doctor who treated Senator Kerry for one of his injuries. In fact, not a single one of the men who pretend to have served with Senator Kerry was actually a crewmate of Senator Kerry's and the man pretending to be his doctor was not. The entire advertisement, therefore, is an inflammatory, outrageous lie.

"Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" styles itself as a group of individuals who personally served with John Kerry in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War. In truth, the group is a sham organization spearheaded by a Texas corporate media consultant. It has be financed largely with funds from a Houston homebuilder. See Slater (?) Dallas Morning News, July 23, 2004.

In this group's advertisements, twelve men appear to make statements about Senator Kerry's service in Vietnam. Not a single one of these men served on either of Senator Kerry's two SWIFT Boats (PCF 44 & PCF94).

Further, the "doctor" who appears in the ad, Louis Letson, was not a crewmate of Senator Kerry's and not the doctor who actually signed Senator Kerry's sick call sheet. Letson is not listed on any document as having treated Senator Kerry after the December 2, 1968 firefight. Moreover, according to news accounts, Letson did not record his "memories" of that incident until after Kerry became a candidate for President in 2003. (National Review Online, May 4, 2004).

The statements made by the phony "crewmates" and "doctor" who appear in the advertisement are also totally, demonstrably and unequivocally false and libelous. In particular, the advertisement charges that Senator Kerry "lied to get his Bronze Star." Just as falsely, it states that "lied before the Senate." These are serious allegations of actual crimes - specifically, of lying to the United States Government in the conduct of its official business. The events for which the Senator was awarded the Bronze Star have been documented repeatedly and in detail and are set out in the official citation signed by the Secretary of the Navy and the Commander of U. S. Forces in Vietnam. And yet these reckless charges of criminal conduct are offered without support or authentication, by the fake "witnesses" speaking on behalf of a phony organization.

Your station is not obligated to accept this advertisement for broadcast nor is it required to account in any way for its decision to reject such an advertisement. Columbia Broadcasting System v. Democratic National Committee, 412 U. S. 94 (1973); You Can't Afford Dodd Committee, 81 FCC2d 579 (1980). This so-called "Swift Boats Veterans" organization is not a federal candidate or candidate committee. Repeated efforts by organizations that are not candidate committees to obtain a private right of access have consistently rejected by the FCC. See e.g., National Conservative Political Action Committee, 89 FCC2d 626 (1982).

Thus, your station may freely refuse this advertisement. Because your station has this freedom, and because it is not a "use" of your facilities by a clearly identified candidate, your station is responsible for the false and libelous charges made by this sponsor.

Moreover, as a licensee, you have an overriding duty "to protect the public from false, misleading or deceptive advertising." Licensee Responsibility With Respect to the Broadcast of False, Misleading or Deceptive Advertising, 74 F.C.D.2d 623 (1961). Your station normally must take "reasonable steps" to satisfy itself "as to the reliability and reputation of every prospective advertiser." In re - Complaint by Consumers Association of District of Columbia, 32 F.C.C.2d 400, 405 (1971).

Under these circumstances, your station may not responsibly air this advertisement. We request that your station act immediately to prevent broadcasts of this advertisement and deny any future sale of time. Knowing that the advertisement is false, and possessing the legal authority to refuse to run it, your station should exercise that authority in the public interest.

A Letter by an Alleged Wife of a Martyr to the Wife of Paul Johnson
The recent issue of Sawt al-Jihad ("Voice of Jihad"), which is identified with Al-Qa'ida, published an article titled "A Letter to the Wife of the Slain Pagan Paul Johnson from the Wife of One of the Martyrs." [1] This letter celebrates the murder of the American hostage Paul Johnson in Saudi Arabia. The anonymous letter is attributed to the wife of one of the terrorists killed by the Saudi Security forces. The following are excerpts from the letter: [2]

[1] It should be noted that whereas the headline states that the letter is by the wife of one of the martyrs and the phrase "my husband" occurs 6 times in the letter, at the end of the letter there is a byline stating, "by the martyr's mother."

"I have heard that you appeared on television feigning innocence and wondering haughtily what was your husband's sin and what was his crime. For you call the criminal innocent and the innocent one, defending his rights – criminal. Or else, what was the purpose of your husband's work with the Apache helicopters? Have you ever believed that these helicopters hover over Afghanistan, Palestine, and Iraq to shower flowers and sweets over the heads of our children there? Or do you know that they throw on them rockets and bombs in order to turn their streets and homes into ashes upon which their corpses become coal? Is his work above reproach, then? Or was he innocent, while he worked on this kind of airplane [sic]?

The wife/mother of a terrorist yells foul. The Saudis Security forces killed her loved one in a raid on Terrorists. Her “husband” was a terrorist.

Paul Johnson worked on helicopters. He wasn’t conducting operations; therefore, he was not part of the action, he was a civilian supporter. This is not equal to her “husband” who was a part of the action and killed because of it. Johnson supported, as you (Madam) support!

Should we take your subtle suggestion on justification of killing supporters and transfer that same notion to YOU?

You supported a “husband” who was active and that puts you in the same classification as Johnson. Is your work above reproach, were you innocent as you supported a terrorist and derived compensation through that terrorist?

You and Paul Johnson were in the same circumstances. But, you seem to believe it was justified to capture and behead Johnson. You state your position regarding Johnson. Since it’s okay to capture and behead supporters, you’re advocating your own demise (in the same way) as justified.

But, of course, you would never promote that. You are different; . . .
you’re only a SUPPORTER!

Pakistan: Suspect Had Photos of Heathrow

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan gave British authorities images of London's Heathrow Airport and other sites that were found on the computers of two al-Qaida fugitives arrested last month, intelligence officials said Thursday.

The officials, however, could not confirm reports in British newspapers that the information helped lead to the arrests of about a dozen suspected terrorists in Britain this week.

Several news reports in Britain said one of the suspects arrested late Tuesday, variously identified as Abu Eisa al-Hindi or Abu Musa al-Hindi, was believed to be a senior member of al-Qaida and had been plotting an attack on Heathrow.

Youssef had direct contact with Bin Laden and received funds from the al-Qaida organisation.

The FBI is also looking at records of a meeting between Atta and an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague earlier this year. Iraq is known to have amassed enough weapons of mass destruction to enable them to wipe out the world’s population.

Richard Butler, the former UN arms inspector in Iraq, said yesterday there was some evidence that al-Qaida had acquired anthrax from Iraq. He said the Egyptian government believed the bacteria could have been handed over during the Prague meeting.(…)

We have donated money, toys, and gifts to OPERATION GIVE for the IRAQI CHILDREN. It is a project to send hugs (in the form of toys) to bring a little happiness to the lives of the little ones in a war-torn country.

ATLAS LINE seems to believe this is JUST BUSINESS. Well, there is some strange business going on. That $30,000 can provide more toys; but, ATLAS LINE has the money; ATLAS LINE has kept that money for months. ATLAS LINE can be pictured ripping the toys from little kids. Not a good thing for a business to do. Not a business with a heart. SCROOGE LIVES!

These kids have known hardships and hunger. . .war and terror. A little happiness would go a long way. ATLAS LINE stands in the way.

Not long ago, I wrote a post asking for your help with a problem with the shipping company, Atlas Line, that we have used to ship all of the donated items to Iraq. The response was wonderful! Many of you called Atlas Line, others wrote email and one person even visited them for us. We thought the problem was solved. We were wrong.

In simple terms, Atlas Line has $30,000 that belongs to Operation Give and we want it back! At the end of this post, I’ll go into a bit more detail for those wanting to understand the situation more fully. For now, here are the simple facts.
(…)Operation Give has shipped three cargo containers full of toys and other donated items for the children of Iraq.

We used the company, Atlas Line, to arrange this for us.
All three cargo containers passage has been paid in full.

This morning’s Chief message:

Thanks to all for your responses and suggestions. Great stuff. It has all been very helpful. We are busily following through on your ideas and have sent the documentation to the Georgia state attorney generals office. I will be following up with them tomorrow. I have spoken with several attorneys in the Atlanta area who might be willing to take this case on a pro bono basis. We have filed a complaint with the better business bureau.

As of close of business today we have not heard from Atlas, we have not seen the money and we have no word that anyone has received the money. It has all been a pack of lies.

I will be picking up the pace on this tomorrow, going after it anyway I can.
You don't want to upset the Chief. When necessary I can unleash my mean side all in the name of justice.

The Kurds even control their own territory with their Peshmerga militia, separate from the Iraqi armed forces." Speaking of Kurdistan, the Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi has recently received a much needed political boost when the leaders of the two main Kurdish political parties have publicly put their support behind him: "The Kurds, whose areas enjoy relative peace, see it in their interests to provide the interim government the support it needs to succeed in its battle against insurgents and terrorists. Allawi has openly supported Kurdish autonomy in the country and recognized their current semi-independent status."

Family

Officials described Aruchi as a nephew of Khalid Sheik Mohammad, the chief planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, who was arrested in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi in March 2003. Like Mohammad, Aruchi was born in Pakistan's Baluchistan province, but his parents later moved to Kuwait and subsequently to other Persian Gulf states.

Officials said Aruchi is also a cousin of Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, who planned and carried out an attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 and is serving a life sentence in the United States.

Ramzi Yousef is in custody for the 1993 WTC attack, as is the Blind Sheikh. Khalid Sheik Mohammad was the one rousted out of bed in the middle of the night; his picture was (and still is) shown throughout the world. Aruchi had been the most recent arrestee (2 arrested in last 24 hourse—Pakistan.) The post says Aruchi is cousin of Yousef, and Aruchi is a nephew of KSM. So, parts of the information collection, planning, and operations are family related.

We’ve seen this family business operation concerning Saddam Hussein. You can trust your family; and, include them in your nefarious activities. Now we have a family operation within AQ. It won’t be the last; but, we don’t always hear the connections until months later.

It’s not rocket science to follow the money….and follow the relatives. We need to know more about who is related to whom.

Furthermore, while they were killing your security, they killed many, many Iraqis. But, that’s okay too, because they made a mistake while they were killing your security. In addition to everything else, in those two sentences Jaafer told you his friends were stupid, incompetent, and careless.

It’s not Jaafer’s fault, or his friends’ fault. Of course not! It’s got to be the fault of someone else. Somebody is fooling you.

Somebody is fooling someone. YES, it’s Jaafer’s friends fooling Jaafer. He believes it; and that makes him a . . . . .(4-letter word)

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — About 90% of the Afghan electorate has registered to vote in October's landmark presidential election, the United Nations said Sunday, as it began winding down a registration effort marred by bloody attacks on election staff and voters.

According to the latest U.N. figures, 8.7 million of an estimated 9.8 million eligible voters have collected ID cards that will allow them to cast a ballot when polling begins Oct. 9 in Afghanistan's first-ever direct national vote.
