SWIFT BOAT FIRES BACK

.

Thanks to captainsquarterblog.com for this big find

Dear Station Manager:

The purpose of this letter is to present some of the factual support for the advertisement "Any Questions?" produced and used by Swift Boat Veterans For Truth ("Swiftvets"), an organization properly registered under Internal Revenue Code § 527, and which has filed all required reports. Swiftvets is an organization led by Rear Admiral Roy Hoffmann, USN (retired), Commander of all Swift boats in Vietnam during the period of John Kerry's four-month abbreviated tour in Swift boats between late November 1968 and mid-March 1969. A list of the 254 members may be found on www.swiftvets.com. A large majority of those who served with John Kerry in Swift boats in Vietnam and whose location is known have joined the organization. Thus, for example, sixteen of the twenty-three surviving officers who served in Coastal Division 11 with Kerry (the place where Kerry spent most of his time) have joined the organization, together with most of Kerry's Vietnam commanders and 254 sailors from Coastal Squadron One, ranging from Vice-Admirals to Seamen.

The purpose of Swiftvets is to present the truth about John Kerry's post-Vietnam charges of war crimes and John Kerry's own Vietnam record. Swiftvets is uniquely positioned to do so since it includes most of the locatable sailors and officers who served with John Kerry in Vietnam.

John Kerry has made his Vietnam record the central focus of his presidential candidacy, depicting purported Vietnam events in nearly $100 million in advertising. Copies of ads such as "Lifetime" and "No Man Left Behind" may be found on Kerry's website. Kerry's authorized campaign biography, Tour of Duty: John Kerry and the Vietnam War, by Douglas Brinkley (New York: HarperCollins, 2004) ("Tour"), centers on his short Vietnam tour and contains Kerry's account of these events. Additional accounts by Kerry of his Vietnam experience may be found on his website.

The Advertisement

A true and correct transcript of the advertisement entitled "Any Questions?" is attached as Exhibit 1. Affidavits are attached (as Exhibits 2 through 14) from each participant in the advertisement, except from John Edwards, the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee, whose often-repeated invitation to learn about John Kerry by speaking to the men who served with him begins the advertisement. The filmed comment of Senator Edwards has been made so many times as to be general knowledge.

As described in the attached affidavits, Al French (Exhibit 2), Bob Elder (Exhibit 3), Jack Chenoweth (Exhibit 7), Larry Thurlow (Exhibit 10), and Bob Hildreth (Exhibit 14) were all officers in charge of Swift boats in Vietnam in Coastal Division 11 with John Kerry. Coastal Division 11 was a small naval unit with about one hundred sailors and fifteen or sixteen boats which operated in groups of two to six boats. Each of these boat officers operated directly with John Kerry on numerous occasions. Van Odell (Exhibit 6) is a retired Navy enlisted man who also served in Coastal Division 11 on the Chenoweth boat, a few yards from John Kerry during Kerry's March 13, 1969 Bronze Star action.

Captain George Elliott, USN (retired), (Exhibit 4) was John Kerry's direct commander in Coastal Division 11, while Captain Adrian Lonsdale, USCG (retired), (Exhibit 9) was Kerry's administrative commander. Rear Admiral Roy Hoffmann, USN (retired), (Exhibit 8) commanded all Swift boats (including Kerry's) in Vietnam. Each of these commanders interacted on numerous occasions with Kerry and, for example, are discussed for many pages in Kerry's own authorized book, Tour.

Dr. Louis Letson (Exhibit 5) was the doctor in Cam Rahn Bay who treated Kerry's first Purple Heart "wound," while Commander Grant Hibbard (Exhibit 11) was John Kerry's commander at Coastal Division 14 where Kerry claimed to have suffered the wound. Finally, Joe Ponder (Exhibit 13) and Shelton White (Exhibit 12) are veterans of Coastal Division 11 who were badly wounded near the Song Bo De River where Kerry served most of his short tour.

The Kerry campaign has utilized a revolving group of eight veterans from Coastal Division 11 (none of whom served with Kerry as much as two months). In stark contrast to this small stable of supporters, the veterans on "Any Questions?" have intimate knowledge of John Kerry or (in the case of Ponder and White) of the falsehood and injury of his false war crimes charges. Although many more of the over 250 signers of the Swiftvets' letter served directly with John Kerry, it would be hard to locate people with more detailed and first-hand knowledge of John Kerry's short Vietnam stay than those in the advertisement. They are well-suited to respond with first-hand knowledge to Edward's invitation. Their sworn affidavits are attached (in order of appearance in the advertisement) as Exhibits 2 through 14.

Kerry's obtaining of three Purple Hearts permitted him to leave Vietnam some 243 days short of the normal one-year tour. See Exhibit 20, Thrice Wounded Reassignment. Whether or not he fraudulently obtained these awards (the Purple Heart being among the most sacred of all awards) is critical to his true Vietnam story.

A. March 13, 1969: "No Man Left Behind" Incident

Attached as Exhibit 15 is Kerry's account of "no man left behind" where, in Tour of Duty, Kerry repeats his now-familiar story of returning, wounded by an underwater mine, to recover a Special Forces soldier, Jim Rassman, in a hail of fire pulling Rassman from the water with his bleeding arm. Tour, at 313-17. The story of Kerry's return to save Rassman, under fire and wounded from the mine, has been told in many millions of dollars of Kerry advertising. See Kerry website; see also, e.g., Kerry's full-page advertisement in The New York Times, which is attached as Exhibit 16.

Kerry's after-action report for that day is featured on his website. See Exhibit 17. KJW identifies the report as Kerry's. Likewise, Kerry reported his shrapnel wounds to the Navy in an injury report:

"LTJG Kerry suffered shrapnel wounds in his left buttocks and contusions on his right forearm when a mine detonated close aboard PCF-94."

Exhibit 18. Exhibit 17 likewise identifies Kerry's "injuries" as contusion right forearm (minor) (i.e., a small bruise) and a shrapnel wound left buttocks.

The regulations for the Purple Heart are attached as Exhibit 19 and, of course, exclude accidental injury and self-inflicted wounds (except non-negligent wounds in the heat of battle). Although Kerry's "minor" bruise could never entitle him to a Purple Heart, Kerry's reported shrapnel wound to his "buttocks" (although minor according to the treating physician) from an enemy mine would have entitled him to such an award (had he not been lying about its origin). Receiving the third Purple Heart, within three days Kerry had requested reassignment from Vietnam on the basis of three Purple Hearts -- some 243 days early. See Exhibit 20.

(i)The Purple Heart Lie

Kerry's third Purple Heart was his ticket home. It also was much of the basis of his Bronze Star, repeating "his bleeding arm" and shrapnel wound from the mine story. The problem is that his operating report was a total lie since Kerry's shrapnel wound "in the buttocks" came not from a mine at all as he falsely reported, but at his own hand. Larry Thurlow, an officer on shore with Kerry that day, recounts that Kerry's shrapnel wound came not from any mine, but from a self-inflicted wound when Kerry (with no enemy to be seen) threw a concussion grenade into a rice pile and stayed too close. See Exhibit 10, ¶3. This "brown rice" incident with rice/shrapnel lodged in Kerry from his own grenade is also recounted by James Rassman, a Kerry supporter and "the no man left behind" on page 105 of John F. Kerry: The Complete Biography By The Boston Globe Reporters Who Know Him Best, by Michael Kranish, Brian C. Mooney, and Nina J. Easton (New York: Public Affairs, 2004) (the "Kranish book"). See Exhibit 21.

Most surprisingly, John Kerry himself (while falsely reporting to the Navy and public that he suffered a shrapnel wound from a mine explosion so as to get a third Purple Heart and go home) reflected in his own journal that his buttocks' wound came, not from any mine but, rather, from a grenade tossed into a rice cache by himself or friendly troops (in the absence of any enemy fire). "I got a piece of small grenade in my ass from one of the rice bin explosions." Exhibit 15, Tour, at 313; see also Exhibit 15, Tour, at 317. "Kerry . . . also had the bits of shrapnel and rice extracted from his backside." See also the sworn statement of participants that there was no hostile fire (Exhibits 6, 7, and 10). It also should be noted that the rice extracted from Kerry's backside could hardly be the result of an underwater mine, as Kerry claimed in his operating report.

The conclusion is inescapable: that Kerry lied by reporting to the Navy that he had been wounded by shrapnel in his backside from an enemy mine when in reality he negligently wounded himself and then lied about the wound in order to secure a third Purple Heart and a quick trip home.

(ii) The Bronze Star Lie

As recounted in the attached affidavits of three on-scene participants (and verified by many others present) Kerry's operating report, Bronze Star story, and subsequent "no man left behind" story are a total hoax on the Navy and the nation. As recounted in the affidavits of Van Odell (Exhibit 6), Jack Chenoweth (Exhibit 7), and Larry Thurlow (Exhibit 10) (and verified by every other officer present and many others), a mine went off under PCF 3 -- some yards from Kerry's boat. The force of the explosion disabled PCF 3 and knocked several sailors, dazed, into the water. All boats, except one, closed to rescue the sailors and defend the disabled boat. That boat -- Kerry's boat -- fled the scene. After a short period, it was evident to all on the scene that there was no additional hostile fire. Thurlow began the daring rescue of disabled PCF 3, while Chenoweth began to pluck dazed survivors of PCF 3 from the water. Midway through the process, after it was apparent that there was no hostile fire, Kerry finally returned, picking up Rassman who was only a few yards from Chenoweth's boat which was also going to pick Rassman up. Each of the affiants (and many other Swiftees on the scene that day) are certain that Kerry has wholly lied about the incident. Consider this: How could the disabled PCF abandon the scene of the mine? Why did Kerry have to "return" to the scene?

Kerry's account of this action, which was used to secure the Bronze Star and a third Purple Heart, is an extraordinary example of fraud. Kerry describes "boats rcd heavy A/W and S/A from both banks. Fire continued for about 5000 meters." Exhibit 17. In other words, the boats went through a double gauntlet at about 50 yards distance that was 3.2 miles long (comparable to Seminary Ridge at Gettysburg on two sides), and yet none of the other boats within feet of Kerry's boat heard a shot or suffered an injury after the PCF 3 mine explosion, except for John Kerry's buttocks rice wound of earlier origin.

Clearly, Van Odell is right when he says, "John Kerry lied to get his Bronze Star . . . I know. I was there. I saw what happened." As Jack Chenoweth swore, "his account of what happened and what actually happened are the difference between night and day." Most poignantly, Larry Thurlow, whose brave actions saved the PCF 3 boat that day after Kerry fled, has the right to say, "When the chips were down, you could not count on John Kerry."

B. December 2, 1968 Purple Heart

On February 28, 1969, John Kerry received his first Purple Heart for an incident three months earlier, on or about December 2, 1968. Kerry's account of the incident is contained in Tour of Duty, pages 147 and 148 (Exhibit 23). Kerry claims to have been with two crewmen, Zaldonis and Runyon. See Exhibit 23. Neither Kerry, Zaldonis, nor Runyon claim to have seen any hostile fire. See Exhibit 24 (Kranish book, pp. 72-73). A Purple Heart cannot be given for a self-inflicted wound under the attached regulations.

Unmentioned in Kerry's Tour Of Duty version are the actual surrounding facts. Kerry, Lieutenant William Schachte, USN, and an enlisted man were on the whaler. Seeing movement from an unknown source, the sailors opened fire on the movement. There was no hostile fire. When Kerry's rifle jammed, he picked up an M-79 grenade launcher and fired a grenade at a nearby object. This sprayed the boat with shrapnel from Kerry's own grenade, a tiny piece of which embedded in Kerry's arm.

Kerry managed to keep the tiny fragment embedded until he saw Dr. Louis Letson. Dr. Letson's affidavit is attached as Exhibit 5. When Letson inquired why Kerry was there, Kerry said that he had been wounded by hostile fire. The accompanying crewmen indicated that Kerry was the new "JFK" and that he had actually wounded himself with an M-79. Letson removed the tiny fragment with tweezers and placed a band aid over the tiny scratch. The tiny fragment removed by Letson appeared to be an M-79 fragment, as described by the personnel accompanying Kerry.

The next morning Kerry showed up at Division Commander Grant Hibbard's office. Hibbard had already spoken to Schachte and conducted an investigation. Hibbard's affidavit is attached as Exhibit 11. Hibbard's investigation revealed that Kerry's "rose thorn" scratch had been self-inflicted in the absence of hostile fire. Hibbard, therefore, booted Kerry out of his office and denied the Purple Heart.

Some three months later, cf. Exhibit 22, after all personnel actually familiar with the events of December 2, 1969 had left Vietnam, Kerry somehow managed to obtain a Purple Heart for the December 2, 1968 event from an officer with no connection to Coastal Division 14 or knowledge of the December 2, 1968 event or of Commander Hibbard's prior turn down of the Purple Heart request. All normal documentation supporting a Purple Heart is missing. There is absolutely no casualty report (i.e., spot report) or hostile fire report or after-action report in the Navy's files to support this "Purple Heart" because there was no casualty, hostile fire, or action on which to report. The sole document relied upon by Kerry is a record showing the band aid and tweezers treatment by Dr. Letson recorded by deceased corpsman, Jess Carreon.

There are no witnesses who claim to have seen hostile fire -- necessary for a Purple Heart (even a rose thorn Purple Heart) -- that day. At least three witnesses, Dr. Letson (who spoke to the participants and removed the M-79 fragment), Lt. Bill Schachte (on the boat), and Cmdr. Grant Hibbard (whose investigation revealed Kerry's application for a Purple Heart to be fraudulent), are able to testify directly or based upon contemporaneous investigation that Kerry's first Purple Heart was a fraud. Thus, Lewis Letson's statement that "I know John Kerry is lying about a first Purple Heart" is conclusively established by the evidence. Like the third Purple Heart, Kerry's first Purple Heart was essential to his quick trip home.

C. Christmas In Cambodia

If there is a consistent[1] repeated story by John Kerry about his Vietnam experience, it is his story about how he and his boat spent Christmas Eve and Christmas of 1968 illegally present in Cambodia and, listening to President Nixon's contrary assurances, developed "a deep mistrust of U.S. government pronouncements." See Exhibit 24, Kranish book, p. 84. The point of his story was that his government and his commanders were lying about Kerry's presence in Cambodia on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. During a critical debate on the floor of the United States Senate on March 27, 1986, Senator John Kerry said:

Mr. President, I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the President of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia.

I have that memory which is seared -- seared -- in me . . . .

Exhibit 25, Congressional Record - Senate of March 27, 1986, page 3594.

By way of further example, Kerry wrote an article for the Boston Herald on October 14, 1979:

"I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."

See Exhibit 26.

The Christmas in Cambodia story of John Kerry was repeated as recently as July 7, 2004 by Michael Kranish, a principal biographer of Kerry from The Boston Globe. On the Hannity & Colmes television show, Kranish indicated that Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia was a critical turning point in Kerry's life.

The story is a total preposterous fabrication by Kerry. Exhibit 8 is an affidavit by the Commander of the Swift boats in Vietnam, Admiral Roy Hoffmann, stating that Kerry's claim to be in Cambodia for Christmas Eve and Christmas of 1968 is a total lie. If necessary, similar affidavits are available from the entire chain of command. In reality, Kerry was at Sa Dec -- easily locatable on any map more than fifty miles from Cambodia. Kerry himself inadvertently admits that he was in Sa Dec for Christmas Eve and Christmas and not in Cambodia, as he had stated for so many years on the Senate Floor, in the newspapers, and elsewhere. Exhibit 27, Tour, pp. 213-219. Sa Dec is hardly "close" to the Cambodian border. In reality, far from being ordered secretly to Cambodia, Kerry spent a pleasant night at Sa Dec with "visions of sugar plums" dancing in his head. Exhibit 27, p. 219. At Sa Dec where the Swift boat patrol area ended, there were many miles of other boats (PBR's) leading to the Cambodian border. There were also gunboats on the border to prevent any crossing. If Kerry tried to get through, he would have been arrested. Obviously, Kerry has hardly been honest about his service in Vietnam.

D. War Crimes

Returning to the United States, Kerry made speeches charging that U.S. forces in Vietnam were "like the army of Genghis Khan," that "crimes were committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of all levels of command," and that our officers in Coastal Division were like Lieutenant Calley. Kerry met on least two occasions with the North Vietnamese in Paris and is, in fact, honored as a hero in the war museum in Ho Chi Minh City. See pictures on WinterSoldier.com and SwiftVets.com. Joe Ponder is a widely quoted disabled vet from Coastal Division 11 who saw no war crimes but knows that Kerry dishonored our unit. Exhibit 13. Shelton White, a badly wounded Coastal Division 11 veteran, likewise saw no war crimes and remembers Kerry's betrayal. Exhibit 12.

Conclusion
As set forth at length, there is not only a reasonable factual basis for the statements in the ad; they are virtually conclusively established by the documentation.Thank you for your kind consideration. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.

Very truly yours,

A KERRY CHRISTMAS

.
December, 1968:

Drudge mentions Kerry on the Senate floor in 1986 and quotes from O'Neill's book (which apparently contains Kerry's words):

"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me."

freep quotes the Boston Herald coverage:

"I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."

O'Neill's book refutes this with:

Nixon wasn't in office.

Kerry ". . .was more than fifty miles away from Cambodia. Kerry was never ordered into Cambodia by anyone and would have been court-martialed had he gone there."

Free Republic says:
The authors say the Cambodia incursion story is not included in Douglas Brinkley's "Tour of Duty." Instead, Kerry told of a mortar attack on Christmas Eve 1968 "near the Cambodia border" in Sa Dec.

World Net Daily says:

"On the floor of the U.S. Senate, March 27, 1986, for example, Kerry attacked President Reagan's actions in Central America, charging they were leading the United States into another Vietnam. He claimed he could recognize the adminstration's errors because he had firsthand knowledge that the Nixon administration lied about American incursions into Cambodia."

And so, the arguments continue.

[Note: Nixon was elected in 1968, sworn 1969. Did President-Elect Nixon make a speech? If so, did he mention Cambodia?]

Diary refutes Kerry claim

By Stephen Dinan and Charles Hurt
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published August 25, 2004

(…)A journal entry Mr. Kerry wrote Dec. 11, however, raises questions about what really happened nine days earlier.

"A cocky feeling of invincibility accompanied us up the Long Tau shipping channel because we hadn't been shot at yet, and Americans at war who haven't been shot at are allowed to be cocky," wrote Mr. Kerry, according the book "Tour of Duty" by friendly biographer Douglas Brinkley.

(…)A Kerry campaign official, speaking on background, told The Washington Times yesterday that the "we" in the passage from Mr. Kerry's journal refers to "the crew on Kerry's first swift boat, operating as a crew" rather than Mr. Kerry himself.

"John Kerry didn't yet have his own boat or crew on December 2," according to the aide. "Other members of the crew had been in Vietnam for some time and had been shot at and Kerry knew that at the time. However, the crew had not yet been fired on while they served together on PCF 44 under Lieutenant Kerry."

It was not condoned, it did not happen, and it was not reported to me verbally or in writing by any of these men including Lt.(jg) Kerry.

In 1971, '72, for almost 18 months, he stood before the television audiences and claimed that the 500,000 men and women in Vietnam, and in combat, were all villains -- there were no heroes. QUOTE #2: The crewman with the best view of the action was Frederic Short, the man in the tub operating the twin guns.

When Kerry returned to his base, his commanding officer, George Elliott, raised an issue with Kerry: the fine line between whether the action merited a medal or a court-martial.

ABOUT AD--NYT

.
Vietnam Veterans Buy Ads to Attack Kerry
By JODI WILGOREN

Published: August 5, 2004

NYT

(...)Adm. Roy F. Hoffman, who is retired and who says in the advertisement, "John Kerry has not been honest," acknowledged that the men in the advertisement did not serve on Mr. Kerry's boat, but he said their time in parallel boats on coordinated missions, or as Mr. Kerry's superiors, made them valid commentators on his record. The group provided station managers with a 13-page memorandum, backed up by more than 60 pages of sworn statements, book excerpts and military records.

"We were on the same operations, we were operating within 25-50 yards of him all the time, and for them to suggest we don't know John Kerry is pure old bull," Mr. Hoffman said. "He has made this the centerpiece of this campaign, and we just don't think he's qualified to be the commander in chief of the armed forces. We have every right to be heard."

(...)A doctor, Louis Letson, repeats accusations he made in newspaper interviews this spring that Mr. Kerry did not deserve his first Purple Heart because his wounds resulted from a ricochet off friendly fire, saying in the advertisement, "I know John Kerry is lying about his first Purple Heart because I treated him for that injury." The Kerry campaign pointed out yesterday, as it had previously, that another doctor, J. C. Carreon, signed Mr. Kerry's treatment record.

From the Muzzle Letter:
(...)Further, the "doctor" who appears in the ad, Louis Letson, was not a crewmate of Senator Kerry's and not the doctor who actually signed Senator Kerry's sick call sheet. Letson is not listed on any document as having treated Senator Kerry after the December 2, 1968 firefight. Moreover, according to news accounts, Letson did not record his "memories" of that incident until after Kerry became a candidate for President in 2003. (National Review Online, May 4, 2004).

The question is:

Did Louis Letson treat John Kerry for that injury?

And, the answer was FUDGED. Letson said, “. . .I treated him for that injury.” ("That injury" meaning the first Purple Heart injury) He didn’t say he signed a document; he didn’t say he was a doctor at the time. He said he treated him for THAT injury.

Where is the answer to the question?

SWIFT MUZZLE

SWIFT BOAT

Thu Aug 05, 2004 11:23 pm

Dear Station Manager:

We are counsel to the Democratic National Committee and John Kerry, respectively. It has been brought to our attention that a group calling itself "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" has bought time, or may seek to buy time, on your station to air an advertisement that attacks Senator Kerry. The advertisement contains statements by men who purport to have served on Senator Kerry's SWIFT Boat in Vietnam and one statement by a man pretending to be a doctor who treated Senator Kerry for one of his injuries. In fact, not a single one of the men who pretend to have served with Senator Kerry was actually a crewmate of Senator Kerry's and the man pretending to be his doctor was not. The entire advertisement, therefore, is an inflammatory, outrageous lie.

"Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" styles itself as a group of individuals who personally served with John Kerry in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War. In truth, the group is a sham organization spearheaded by a Texas corporate media consultant. It has be financed largely with funds from a Houston homebuilder. See Slater (?) Dallas Morning News, July 23, 2004.

In this group's advertisements, twelve men appear to make statements about Senator Kerry's service in Vietnam. Not a single one of these men served on either of Senator Kerry's two SWIFT Boats (PCF 44 & PCF94).

Further, the "doctor" who appears in the ad, Louis Letson, was not a crewmate of Senator Kerry's and not the doctor who actually signed Senator Kerry's sick call sheet. Letson is not listed on any document as having treated Senator Kerry after the December 2, 1968 firefight. Moreover, according to news accounts, Letson did not record his "memories" of that incident until after Kerry became a candidate for President in 2003. (National Review Online, May 4, 2004).

The statements made by the phony "crewmates" and "doctor" who appear in the advertisement are also totally, demonstrably and unequivocally false and libelous. In particular, the advertisement charges that Senator Kerry "lied to get his Bronze Star." Just as falsely, it states that "lied before the Senate." These are serious allegations of actual crimes - specifically, of lying to the United States Government in the conduct of its official business. The events for which the Senator was awarded the Bronze Star have been documented repeatedly and in detail and are set out in the official citation signed by the Secretary of the Navy and the Commander of U. S. Forces in Vietnam. And yet these reckless charges of criminal conduct are offered without support or authentication, by the fake "witnesses" speaking on behalf of a phony organization.

Your station is not obligated to accept this advertisement for broadcast nor is it required to account in any way for its decision to reject such an advertisement. Columbia Broadcasting System v. Democratic National Committee, 412 U. S. 94 (1973); You Can't Afford Dodd Committee, 81 FCC2d 579 (1980). This so-called "Swift Boats Veterans" organization is not a federal candidate or candidate committee. Repeated efforts by organizations that are not candidate committees to obtain a private right of access have consistently rejected by the FCC. See e.g., National Conservative Political Action Committee, 89 FCC2d 626 (1982).

Thus, your station may freely refuse this advertisement. Because your station has this freedom, and because it is not a "use" of your facilities by a clearly identified candidate, your station is responsible for the false and libelous charges made by this sponsor.

Moreover, as a licensee, you have an overriding duty "to protect the public from false, misleading or deceptive advertising." Licensee Responsibility With Respect to the Broadcast of False, Misleading or Deceptive Advertising, 74 F.C.D.2d 623 (1961). Your station normally must take "reasonable steps" to satisfy itself "as to the reliability and reputation of every prospective advertiser." In re - Complaint by Consumers Association of District of Columbia, 32 F.C.C.2d 400, 405 (1971).

Under these circumstances, your station may not responsibly air this advertisement. We request that your station act immediately to prevent broadcasts of this advertisement and deny any future sale of time. Knowing that the advertisement is false, and possessing the legal authority to refuse to run it, your station should exercise that authority in the public interest.

Please contact us promptly at either of the phone numbers below to advise us regarding the status of this advertisement.

Sincerely yours,

A Letter by an Alleged Wife of a Martyr to the Wife of Paul Johnson
The recent issue of Sawt al-Jihad ("Voice of Jihad"), which is identified with Al-Qa'ida, published an article titled "A Letter to the Wife of the Slain Pagan Paul Johnson from the Wife of One of the Martyrs." [1] This letter celebrates the murder of the American hostage Paul Johnson in Saudi Arabia. The anonymous letter is attributed to the wife of one of the terrorists killed by the Saudi Security forces. The following are excerpts from the letter: [2]

[1] It should be noted that whereas the headline states that the letter is by the wife of one of the martyrs and the phrase "my husband" occurs 6 times in the letter, at the end of the letter there is a byline stating, "by the martyr's mother."

2] Sawt al-Jihad, issue no. 21.

“'The Blood of Your Husband is the Blood of a Dog because He is an Idolatrous Infidel'

"I have heard that you appeared on television feigning innocence and wondering haughtily what was your husband's sin and what was his crime. I believe you are not ignorant of the fact that he was one of the greatest criminals indeed, although he is not considered that according to your standards, you infidels. For you call the criminal innocent and the innocent one, defending his rights – criminal. Or else, what was the purpose of your husband's work with the Apache helicopters? Have you ever believed that these helicopters hover over Afghanistan, Palestine, and Iraq to shower flowers and sweets over the heads of our children there? Or do you know that they throw on them rockets and bombs in order to turn their streets and homes into ashes upon which their corpses become coal? Is his work above reproach, then? Or was he innocent, while he worked on this kind of airplane [sic]?

The wife/mother of a terrorist yells foul. The Saudis Security forces killed her loved one in a raid on Terrorists. Her “husband” was a terrorist.

Paul Johnson worked on helicopters. He wasn’t conducting operations; therefore, he was not part of the action, he was a civilian supporter. This is not equal to her “husband” who was a part of the action and killed because of it. Johnson supported, as you (Madam) support!

Should we take your subtle suggestion on justification of killing supporters and transfer that same notion to YOU?

You supported a “husband” who was active and that puts you in the same classification as Johnson. Is your work above reproach, were you innocent as you supported a terrorist and derived compensation through that terrorist?

You and Paul Johnson were in the same circumstances. But, you seem to believe it was justified to capture and behead Johnson. You state your position regarding Johnson. Since it’s okay to capture and behead supporters, you’re advocating your own demise (in the same way) as justified.

But, of course, you would never promote that. You are different; . . .
you’re only a SUPPORTER!

Pakistan: Suspect Had Photos of Heathrow

By PAUL HAVEN

Associated Press Writer
August 5, 2004, 11:28 AM EDT

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan gave British authorities images of London's Heathrow Airport and other sites that were found on the computers of two al-Qaida fugitives arrested last month, intelligence officials said Thursday.

The officials, however, could not confirm reports in British newspapers that the information helped lead to the arrests of about a dozen suspected terrorists in Britain this week.

Several news reports in Britain said one of the suspects arrested late Tuesday, variously identified as Abu Eisa al-Hindi or Abu Musa al-Hindi, was believed to be a senior member of al-Qaida and had been plotting an attack on Heathrow.

(…)Maps, photographs and other details of possible targets in the United States and Britain were found on computers belonging to Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani -- a Tanzanian indicted for his role in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa -- and a Pakistani computer expert identified as Mohammed Naeem Noor Khan, said two officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity

JERSEY ALERT

.

There is trouble with birth certificates and passports issues by Hudson Co., NJ. It looks like someone is issuing fraudulent documents from Hudson County. Jersey City is in Hudson County, New Jersey.

An investigation is underway.

Ramzi Youssef has a residence in Jersey City; Yasin had a place in Jersey City; the "blind sheikh" spoke at a Jersey City Mosque; the van used to blow up WTC in 1993 was rented from Jersey City.

Guardian

(…)New Jersey has figured prominently as a centre for Islamists connected with al-Qaida. Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, who operated out of Jersey City, proved a magnet for young militants across the world, including El Sayyid Nosair, who killed the racist rabbi Meir Kahane; and Ramzi Youssef, who was eventually convicted of the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Centre. Youssef had direct contact with Bin Laden and received funds from the al-Qaida organisation.

The FBI is also looking at records of a meeting between Atta and an Iraqi intelligence officer in Prague earlier this year. Iraq is known to have amassed enough weapons of mass destruction to enable them to wipe out the world’s population.

Richard Butler, the former UN arms inspector in Iraq, said yesterday there was some evidence that al-Qaida had acquired anthrax from Iraq. He said the Egyptian government believed the bacteria could have been handed over during the Prague meeting.(…)

RAMZI

THE WORLD TRADE CENTER BOMB:
Who is Ramzi Yousef? And Why It Matters
by Laurie Mylroie

ACCORDING TO THE presiding judge in last year's trial, the bombing of New York's World Trade Center on February 26, 1993 was meant to topple the city's tallest tower onto its twin, amid a cloud of cyanide gas. Had the attack gone as planned, tens of thousands of Americans would have died. Instead, as we know, one tower did not fall on the other, and, rather than vaporizing, the cyanide gas burnt up in the heat of the explosion. "Only" six people died. (…)

(…)Dramatis Personae

**Ramzi Yousef, a.k.a. Abdul Basit Karim -the key man; likely Iraqi agent.

**El Sayid Nosair--murderer of Rabbi Meir Kahane, bomb plot initiator.

**Emad Salem--FBI informant with ties to Egyptian intelligence.

**Mohammed Salameh--Palestinian fundamentalist, Nosair accomplice and early plotter; left a trail of phone calls to Iraq.

**Musab Yasin--Iraqi with New Jersey apartment where Yousef first went.

**Abdul Rahman Yasin--Musab's brother, led FBI to apartment where bomb was made; employee of Iraqi government; indicted fugitive, presently in Baghdad.

**Nidal Ayyad--Palestinian fundamentalist convicted in the World Trade Center bombing.

**Mahmud Abu Halima--Egyptian fundamentalist cab driver convicted in the World Trade Center bombing

**Eyyad Ismail--Palestinian from Jordan charged with having driven the van. (…)

(…)Musab lived in the same building as Mohammad Salameh. Many young Arab men used their two apartments, praying and eating together; relations were so close that the apartments were connected by an intercom. Once established within this group, Ramzi Yousef befriended Salameh, and the two left to share an apartment elsewhere in Jersey City. From then on, the impressionable Salameh was under Yousef s wing.(…)

HUMOROUS INTELLIGENCE

.

This morning, the Intelligence Committee met to discuss the 9/11 Report.

When the gathering of opinions became a snooze fest, one speaker said, (paraphrased) “I think I need to walk down the hall to the bathroom . . .” (wake up from the boredom.)

To which one of the Committee Members said, “I’m sorry. I can’t tell you where the bathroom is. THAT’S CLASSIFIED!”

SCROOGE LIVES (#500)

.
SCROOGE LIVES, apparently in the form of ATLAS LINE.

We have donated money, toys, and gifts to OPERATION GIVE for the IRAQI CHILDREN. It is a project to send hugs (in the form of toys) to bring a little happiness to the lives of the little ones in a war-torn country.

ATLAS LINE seems to believe this is JUST BUSINESS. Well, there is some strange business going on. That $30,000 can provide more toys; but, ATLAS LINE has the money; ATLAS LINE has kept that money for months. ATLAS LINE can be pictured ripping the toys from little kids. Not a good thing for a business to do. Not a business with a heart. SCROOGE LIVES!

These kids have known hardships and hunger. . .war and terror. A little happiness would go a long way. ATLAS LINE stands in the way.

Where’s BILL O’REILLY when you need him?????

OP. GIVE'S $30,000

TOY TROUBLE
.
Chief Wiggles

Not long ago, I wrote a post asking for your help with a problem with the shipping company, Atlas Line, that we have used to ship all of the donated items to Iraq. The response was wonderful! Many of you called Atlas Line, others wrote email and one person even visited them for us. We thought the problem was solved. We were wrong.

In simple terms, Atlas Line has $30,000 that belongs to Operation Give and we want it back! At the end of this post, I’ll go into a bit more detail for those wanting to understand the situation more fully. For now, here are the simple facts.
(…)Operation Give has shipped three cargo containers full of toys and other donated items for the children of Iraq.

We used the company, Atlas Line, to arrange this for us.
All three cargo containers passage has been paid in full.

This morning’s Chief message:
Thanks to all for your responses and suggestions. Great stuff. It has all been very helpful. We are busily following through on your ideas and have sent the documentation to the Georgia state attorney generals office. I will be following up with them tomorrow. I have spoken with several attorneys in the Atlanta area who might be willing to take this case on a pro bono basis. We have filed a complaint with the better business bureau.

As of close of business today we have not heard from Atlas, we have not seen the money and we have no word that anyone has received the money. It has all been a pack of lies.

I will be picking up the pace on this tomorrow, going after it anyway I can.
You don't want to upset the Chief. When necessary I can unleash my mean side all in the name of justice.

I will keep you all posted. Keep up the pressure and turn on the heat.
We will do the rest.

Thanks

Chrenkoff’s 7th part of the GOOD NEWS includes:

Some areas of Iraq, like the Kurdistan, are much further advanced along the road to normalcy, as one of the best correspondents out of Iraq, Nicholas Rothwell of "The Australian" writes: "The construction of an open, democratic, Western-oriented society may be an elusive dream in the rest of Iraq, but it is a solid reality here. The Kurds even control their own territory with their Peshmerga militia, separate from the Iraqi armed forces." Speaking of Kurdistan, the Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi has recently received a much needed political boost when the leaders of the two main Kurdish political parties have publicly put their support behind him: "The Kurds, whose areas enjoy relative peace, see it in their interests to provide the interim government the support it needs to succeed in its battle against insurgents and terrorists. Allawi has openly supported Kurdish autonomy in the country and recognized their current semi-independent status."

IT'S RELATIVE

.
Family

Officials described Aruchi as a nephew of Khalid Sheik Mohammad, the chief planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, who was arrested in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi in March 2003. Like Mohammad, Aruchi was born in Pakistan's Baluchistan province, but his parents later moved to Kuwait and subsequently to other Persian Gulf states.

Officials said Aruchi is also a cousin of Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, who planned and carried out an attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 and is serving a life sentence in the United States.

Ramzi Yousef is in custody for the 1993 WTC attack, as is the Blind Sheikh. Khalid Sheik Mohammad was the one rousted out of bed in the middle of the night; his picture was (and still is) shown throughout the world. Aruchi had been the most recent arrestee (2 arrested in last 24 hourse—Pakistan.) The post says Aruchi is cousin of Yousef, and Aruchi is a nephew of KSM. So, parts of the information collection, planning, and operations are family related.

We’ve seen this family business operation concerning Saddam Hussein. You can trust your family; and, include them in your nefarious activities. Now we have a family operation within AQ. It won’t be the last; but, we don’t always hear the connections until months later.

It’s not rocket science to follow the money….and follow the relatives. We need to know more about who is related to whom.

(Max) 1 + 2 = 3

Iraqis want security; the Iraqi Police can bring security.

Jaafer’s friends want to kill Police; therefore, Jaafer’s friends are against security.

Jaafer’s friends are against what Iraqis want. Whose heroes are these “friends?” Not Iraq’s heroes.

In two sentences, Jaafer tells you what you need to know. His “heroes” are killing Iraq’s security; but, it’s okay because your security was getting help.

Furthermore, while they were killing your security, they killed many, many Iraqis. But, that’s okay too, because they made a mistake while they were killing your security. In addition to everything else, in those two sentences Jaafer told you his friends were stupid, incompetent, and careless.

It’s not Jaafer’s fault, or his friends’ fault. Of course not! It’s got to be the fault of someone else. Somebody is fooling you.

Somebody is fooling someone. YES, it’s Jaafer’s friends fooling Jaafer. He believes it; and that makes him a . . . . .(4-letter word)

EMAIL at SULLIVAN's

.
from Andrew Sullivan site

EMAIL OF THE DAY: "I've been thinking about Kerry's real dilemma. What if he wins? Assume for argument's sake that he is as committed to the war on Islamofascism as Bush. What will be the situation he finds himself in?

First, his victory will be accompanied with videos of cheering islamofascist crowds - the Arab and Islamic worlds will (perhaps unfairly) interpret his victory as a defeat for America - after all, in the Arab world regimes tend to change only when the nation is defeated.

Second, our enemies and friends will tend to perceive Kerry as the "weaker" candidate - the one less likely to agressively assert US interests. In high school terms, Bush is the "Crazy Motherf(bleep)r" that nobody messes with - because everyone knows what happened to Omar and Saddam. Kerry is like a Student Council Treasurer - not a bad guy but no reputation for aggression, indeed a reputation for avoiding conflict, a guy you might be able to intimidate.

Paradoxically, this puts Kerry in the position of needing to be more agressive than Bush in the next term - he needs to demonstrate his willingness to assert US interests and take out bad guys so that the benefits of intimidation that Bush achieved don't evaporate. By contrast Bush doesn't need to do nearly as much because everybody knows that he's a "Crazy Motherf(bleep)r".

Of course this assumes that Kerry wants to aggressively fight islamofascism. If he doesn't he faces no dilemma - we just lose."

Woolsey Testimony

In this context I would call the Committee?s attention to a recent report of what may well have been an unintentional omission on a form, but which raises the issue of how important it is to make careful judgments about how widely information is disseminated. In a piece in Salon.com day before yesterday, June 22, by Salon?s Washington Correspondent, Mary Jacoby, it was reported that ?[t]he policy director for the Department of Homeland Security?s intelligence division was briefly removed from his job in March when the Federal Bureau of Investigation discovered that he had failed to disclose his association with Abdurahman Almoudi, a jailed American Muslim leader. Almoudi was indicted last year on terrorism-related money-laundering charges and now claims to have been part of a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia?s Crown Prince Abdullah.? The article adds that the individual who was temporarily removed ?? has access to top secret information on the vulnerability of American seaports, aviation facilities, and nuclear power plants to terrorist attacks.? It further adds that the Bureau had discovered that the individual ?? had failed to list on security clearance documents his work in 2001 with the American Muslim Council?? an ?advocacy group, which was controlled by Almoudi [and] has been under scrutiny in an investigation of terrorism financing?.?

"There was more activity up and down the aisle through first class than I have ever experienced on any flight, including international flights," the second passenger said. "The most unusual part was that the flight attendants seemed to ignore what was going on."

The second passenger said she did not share her concerns with the flight attendants because "I thought I was just crazy, and I didn't want to be the crazy person on the flight that stands up and says something is wrong, but I will now in the future. I praise Annie for what she did, because I didn't have the guts to."

They are not "filled with guts"; they are filled with FANATACISM. They are not brave; they send the stupid to commit suicide while killing innocents. They are not friends of Iraq.

They are enemies of Iraq, and they are:

(…)The newspaper quoted Bakhtiar Amin, the human rights minister in the new Iraqi government, who said he had visited Saddam’s cell on Saturday. Amin said he did not speak to the former Iraqi leader.(…)

He reported that Saddam was being treated for high blood pressure and a chronic prostate infection, and was gaining weight after losing 11 pounds during a time when he resisted all fatty foods.

COMMENT: Saddam is “lawyered up” now. Amazing antics to follow. An attempt on his life? That’s pointing out the obvious!

BLIXIN again #480

.
Blixful Amnesia

By Charles KrauthammerFriday, July 9, 2004; Page A19

Thank God for Hans Blix. Whenever we become lax and forgetful about how the world changed on Sept. 11, former chief inspector Blix is there to make the case for mindless complacency. In a recent speech in Vienna he warned that one should be wary of the claim that "the risk that reckless groups and governments might acquire weapons of mass destruction is the greatest problem facing our world today." Why? Because "to hundreds of millions of people around the world, the big existential issue is hunger, and also that wherever you live on this planet, the risk of global warming and other environmental threats are existential." (…)

What is so dismaying is that such an obvious truth needs repeating. The passage of time, the propaganda of the anti-American left and the setbacks in Iraq have changed nothing of that truth. This is the first time in history that the knowledge of how to make society-destroying weapons has been democratized. Today small radical groups allied with small radical states can do the kind of damage to the world that in the past only a great, strategically located and industrialized power such as Germany or Japan could do.

It is a new world and exceedingly dangerous. Everything is at stake. We are now deeply engaged in a breast-beating exercise for not having connected the dots before Sept. 11. And yet here we are three years after Sept. 11, with the dots already connected, and we are under a powerful urge to ignore them completely.

COMMENT:  Blix frequently catapults himself into the spotlight.  After painting a bulls-eye on his face, he thrusts himself into the limelight shouting “punch me.”

Krauthammer couldn’t resist.

INCINERATING

.
Mohammed

In a series of incinerating blasts, Mohammed's anger fired up, directed, and delivered. Mohammed (at Iraq the Model) is torching the "weenies." It's not pretty; but it's JUSTIFIED.

(…)What’s even worse and disgusting is that these governments smugly come and ask the admirably determined nation Australia to apologize while it’s them who must apologize to the whole world for their awful mistakes that encouraged terrorists and reassured them that their criminal tactics can work.

These countries have found excuses for terror and gave the terrorists the motives to carry on with their plans as long as these plans can make "sovereign countries" yield in front of a true criminal action.

PRETEND

Pretend You're In Iraq
(via Farouz from Mrs. Neuman's email)

"Many soldiers and their family members read this blog. Since it's the weekend, I thought humor will be good -- Thank you Mrs. Neuman for the e-mail.

Want to pretend that your are deployed to Iraq? Here is a list of things you can do right in your own home:

1.  Sleep on a cot in the garage.

2.  Replace the garage door with a curtain.

3.  Six hours after you go to sleep, have your wife or girlfriend whip open the curtain, shine a flashlight in your eyes and mumble, "Sorry, wrong cot."

4.  Renovate your bathroom. Hang a green plastic sheet down from the middle of your bathtub and move the showerhead down to chest level. Keep four inches of soapy cold water on the floor.

5.  Stop cleaning the toilet and pee everywhere but in the toilet itself. For a more realistic deployed bathroom experience, stop using your bathroom and use a neighbor's. Choose a neighbor who lives at least a quarter mile away.

There are 36 to read.
Thanks to Farouz and Mrs. Neuman!

NO SURPRISE---THK

.
It is “no surprise” that Teresa Heinz Kerry has an opinion; or that she can be a spit-fire.  She knows it and says it.  This can be a challenge for the Democrats.

Last night, THK said,”(…)There is a value in taking a stand . . .even if it is a risky thing to do.”

THK just supported BUSH.  That was not her intent, but she did it.

Bush took a stand and persisted in that stand because he thought it was the right thing to do.  He persisted in the diplomatic route until it was recognized that it had gone as far as it could.  Bush led.  He put his Presidency on the line because this was important.  It was a risky thing to do.

The country may not thank George; but, I see the value.

More importantly, THE IRAQIS SEE THE VALUE AND APPRECIATE THE VALUE.

Cheney may say the “F”-word.  THK may say “SHOVE IT.”  Both are human and subject to the frustrations of politics and press.  But, for whatever reasons, THK supported Bush’s position, nicely.

SHOVE IT! by THK

.

“. . .and sometimes, Un-American traits . . .”

I didn’t misplace my sense of humor; sometimes I have to step on it with both feet.  When the humor flies out, anyway, you could end up with both feet in your mouth.  So, I try to tramp down firmly.  It doesn’t work well.

Did you see THK?  Heinz Kerry let’er rip in a recent speech.  She said, “un-American.”  A reporter pestered her about it and she said, “She didn’t say ‘un-American’” . . .but she did.  Un-American is not PC; saying it, being it, accusing of it, sends scorching flames that singe the unexpected.

The second time the pesty reporter tackled her, THK (let’er rip again, and) told him to “SHOVE IT.”

Oh, ya gotta laugh!

SADDAM HOHOsane

.
SADDAM HOHOsane?

If Saddam hadn’t been such a murderous creep, he might have been as funny as “bagdad bob.”

First, he is concerned about his rights—when he couldn’t see that others wanted rights, too.  He couldn't recognize them for others; but, because of his capture he sees rights everywhere for Saddam.

Now, someone is complaining that poor Saddam is in solitary confinement—no tv, etc.  It may not be solitary confinement; it might be quarantine—his mentality seems to have been contagious.  HO HO!

Let’s have a vote on it.  Saddam doesn’t have a right to radio or tv.  Maybe the Iraqis could vote on whether or not he should have the right to be put back in his previous position.

No. . .not as ruler of Iraq!  Vote whether or not to put Saddam back in the HOLE.  (talk about solitary confinement!)  HO HO SADDAM!  You could be such a joke—if you weren't so despicable.

RAISE ONE!

.
Tom (at Redhunter.blogspot—see right link) quoted 3 Iraqi Blogs, all with good things to discuss about the happenings in Iraq.  Many of the improvements have been ignored by American media, and we can’t picture Al Jazeera mentioning much of anything good.  The Iraqis notice: Salam (Where’s Read) discussed it, Omar (Iraq the Model) and Sam (Hammorabi) blog about it.

In a momentary game of Blog Poker, I’ll see you with Sarmad’s comments (Road of a Nation,) Mohammed’s fine comments (Iraq the Model,) and. . . . . . . .

The Big Pharoah (Egyptian, frequently blogs about Iraq) said:

America is WinningAmerica is winning in Iraq. Despite the continuous violence and the kidnappings we witness everyday, I now believe that the US and its Iraqi allies are on the right track. The US can easily see light at the end of the tunnel simply because it seems that Iraqis started to realize that they are not living in a country from Rent A Country.

NOBODY WASHES A RENTED CAR!  (Possibly originally GM's comment, or Thinker's comment (Thinker is one of the fine commentators on the Iraqi Blog scene.)

And, I'll raise it one, with . . .

Firos (Iraq&Iraqis)

Well there is nothing wrong, actually every thing is fine here, except I have lost two assistants at the same day (one of them got married and her husband is taking her out of Iraq the other one found her self another job with triple of what she used to get with us), happy things as you can see.(…)

What may back up my criteria is what is going on in the ISX (Iraq Stock eXchange). Things there are more than good, its terrifying good. Nobody expected to close deals in one day with the same value of what he used to close in three months work, and investors are trying to find themselves a broker who isn’t so occupied with deals. (…)

UPBEAT

.
GM (THE BIG PHAROAH) SAYS:

America is winning in Iraq. Despite the continuous violence and the kidnappings we witness everyday, I now believe that the US and its Iraqi allies are on the right track. The US can easily see light at the end of the tunnel simply because it seems that Iraqis started to realize that they are not living in a country from Rent A Country.

Before June 28th, many Iraqis felt that their country was owned by the US who literally took it from its previous owner Saddam Hussein. Today it seems that more and more Iraqis are beginning to feel that there is a political process currently underway which will put the average citizen behind the steering wheel.

One of the most important developments I have heard so far is the increasing number of Iraqis who are willing to break the "fear barrier" and supply the Iraqi Police with valuable information about criminals and terrorists. My fellow blogger Mohammed reported on this in one of his recent posts.

WORD WAR

.
Philippines feel it is being “unfairly blamed” for the latest actions of the kidnappers/murderers in Iraq.  Australia and Italy are being targeted, now.  Almost immediately after the Philippines CAVED more kidnappings took place.  The Philippines doesn’t see the connection because it doesn’t want to see it.  But…the Australians can add (1 + 2 equals 3.)  They get it!

Apparently, the European outlet for AQ has promised “pools of blood” for Australia.  The Australians responded with the opinion that you cave in to the terrorists and you give them more power.  Rewarding bad behavior increases bad behavior.   If bad behavior does not succeed, it will not be beneficial to conduct bad behavior.

AQ wants to win and will do anything to accomplish it—car bombing, roadside bombs, mortars, kidnappings, beheadings.  It will take the good people of the world to scream at this, to fight this, to recognize that it will continue if it is beneficial.

STOP SUPPORTING IT; each time you support this it multiplies the bad behavior by 10.  If you can’t do the right thing for the benefit of the rest of us, do it for you.

SPAIN, PHILIPPINES. . . .AQ controls you; they know where to press the buttons.  They are among you.  Soon, it’s likely they will OWN YOU.

INEPT?

.
“There is a lot of pent up rage in middle America at Bush's inept handling of the war in Iraq and its contribution to soaring terrorism.”(Anonymous--Sam's comments section)

Difference of opinion from this former “Silent Majority” member of middle-America:

Inept handling-- the war action was anything but inept.  It was swift, and effective.  The aftermath of the major action is the “inept” song sung by partisan groups and movements whose only solution was “don’t do it”; there are few viable solutions offered beyond that.  The conductor continues to play the tune, the singers warble the same notes; and, the tempo of the orchestra increases its beat (the closer we get to the elections.)

Contribution to soaring terrorism—there would be little difference in the eventual activity of the terrorists.  They had been plotting, and planning.  The setup had been underway.  Those who blame Bush for 9/11 fail to account for the plans prior to his candidacy.  It took approximately 5 years to plan.  The terrorists’ crystal ball isn’t any better than mine; I didn’t know GWB would be President, did you?  Bush (43) wasn’t in the picture for the 1993 WTC bombing.  In short, it didn’t matter who was President; when the terrorists were ready to perform the action, they did it.

The enemy is clearly defined:  those who willingly target the innocents, and those who support them.  The enemy is not easily recognizable; they hide and blend in with their eventual victims.

Tell us your solutions, Anonymous.

(Anonymous)“There is also a lot of disgust at the non-stop fear-mongering of the Bush administration and the media since 9/11. Lots of Americans are sick of the attitude that 20 or 30 years of war is what it is going to take -- sort of an adoption of the Israeli/Palestinina never-ending war scenario.”

**We are going to get sicker of hearing it….but the reality curls the spine.  “Non-stop fear-mongering is something I would hesitate to say to any family of the 9/11 WTC victims.  Tell Ted Olsen that it’s “fear-mongering” and not a reality which needs supreme effort on the part of each of us.  You suggest a “cry wolf” scenario.  Tell it to the people of Bali; shout it to the people of Madrid and Morocco; mumble it to the subway riders in Tokyo.  Hell, try telling it to the people of Iraq.  This could be the toughest fight in the new century; and, it’s the most difficult battle in our short existence as a country.

If part of the plan is to “divide and conquer,” divide has happened.  The question is:  will we be able to pull together?  I had felt that we could if we had to.  Now, I wonder how many will fail to see that we have to.  How many (who didn’t see it for the last decades) will not see it now?

The Iraeli/Palestinian Conflict (“Israeli/Palestinina never-ending war scenario”) has been going on for half a century.  There has been little, if any, improvement.  The “WALL” was the one thing which could help the situation; but, of course, Israel shouldn’t be allowed to wall itself off for protection—thereby changing Palestine to an UN-OCCUPIED COUNTRY.  And, the Palestinians shouldn’t be allowed to see what their “P-friendly” terrorists are doing to them and their children.  All those little P-suicide bombers will be ready in about 10 years.  And, it’s difficult to imagine that all will be quiet during the next 10 years while we wait for the new group.

I don’t know what would lead you to think that the WoT would be easier/shorter than the half-century I/PC, that (at least) has a defined geographic area.

Kindly, give us some solutions. We could use a little hope. I'll be more than happy to listen--especially to some really good solutions. We need them.

ANOTHER I-KIDNAPPING

.
Quttab (FOX)

(CAUTION: FIRST REPORTS AREN'T USUALLY ACCURATE)

Report: Egyptian Diplomat Kidnapped in Iraq
Friday, July 23, 2004

CAIRO, Egypt — Al-Jazeera television broadcast a videotape Friday from militants who claim to have kidnapped an Egyptian diplomat in Iraq.

The diplomat, identified as Mohammed Mamdouh Helmi Quttab (search), was shown seated in front of six masked kidnappers. They were clad in black hoods and robes, with white headbands. One was holding an assault rifle and another had a pistol on his hip.

The group, which called itself the Lions of Allah Brigade, said it had abducted him because the Egyptian government said it was prepared to deploy security experts to help the interim government in Iraq.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry officials confirmed they have a diplomat in their Baghdad (search) mission by the name of Mamdouh Qutb, but not Quttab. The officials said they were checking the Al-Jazeera report.

COMMENT:  Turn the threat around!  You've got 24 hours to release him or we add 500 troops.  Each day, we will add more.  When we run out, we'll request and pressure others to help.

LEGAL TERROR

.
(C-SPAN) During a brief discussion about the Jacobsens (see Terror in the Skies) a female caller put forth her idea that part of this activity was “legal terror.” There were too many incidences of the type of actions the Jacobsens experienced in their described flight. Is there a concerted effort to terrorize the American public while staying within the bounds of U.S. Law? It’s an interesting point.

There have been many taunting incidences, including the one where the Georgia woman overheard two men in a questionable discussion. The circumstances must be reported, must be investigated, and it drains resources—it costs money. Are some of the activities purposely engineered to cause notice, thereby terrorizing the population incrementally—bit by bit, drip-drip water torture.

My philosophy is that we deal with it step-by-step, as we have been dealing with it. We must continue to view the incidences as real, until proven otherwise. The American public believes we can be protected, but doesn’t realize the difficulty . . .yet. We are too preoccupied with the blame game.

We need ideas; we need people participation. We, the people, cannot sit back (doing nothing) while accusing the government of not protecting US. They cannot protect all of US from everything, all the time.

Any ideas?

Saddam files new human rights complaint
Date: July 23 2004

Lawyers for ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein have filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights calling on France to make the United States respect the Geneva Conventions.

This is today's laugh!  Now Saddam wants to promote human rights.  Doesn't he have to prove that he's human, first?

Iraqi Defense and Interior Ministers Accuse Iran of Terrorism Against Iraq, Threaten Retaliation within Iran

In an interview published in the London Arabic-language daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Iraqi Defense Minister Hazem Al-Sha'lan warned Iran that Iraq is capable of responding to Iranian-supported terrorism in Iraq, within Iran itself. [1] To read previous MEMRI dispatches on Iran's subversive actions within post-war Iraq, see MEMRI's Inquiry & Analysis, "Iran's Stirrings in Iraq," released on May 5, 2004. [2]

SHIP JOKE

.

FOX

WASHINGTON — A report of a bomb aboard a Turkish merchant ship Thursday forced the U.S. Coast Guard (search) to escort the vessel away from the port of Philadelphia and anchor it near the mouth of the Delaware River, where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean, senior Defense officials told FOX News.

The ship's master became irritated with the length of time a routine Coast Guard search was taking and made comments about a possible explosion, officials said. He refused to allow authorities to search certain portions of the vessel, called the Cenk Kaptanoglu (search).

But the captain later told authorities he'd been joking about the bomb, officials told FOX News. The ship, which was carrying coal, had not yet been boarded for its second inspection.

The joke falls flat.  It's costly.  This could be the objective. . ."Legal Terror!"

FOX NEWS ALERT

.

LATEST: We are hearing the word HOAX; so, this is leaning toward STUPID SHIP.

(Update #1,#2)

Within the last few minutes, there was a News Alert.  A Turkish Merchant ship destined for the port of Philadelphia is being escorted off the coast.  The ship is on the way to a destination off the coast of Delaware.

The ship’s Captain/Master reported a bomb aboard.  Now that the ship has proceeded off the coast, the Captain/Master does not want to be boarded.

The words from US:  THE SHIP WILL BE BOARDED.   Teams are standing by.

TURKISH MERCHANT SHIP:  You are in the bullseye.  It isn't wise to issue requirements or refusals---much wiser to cooperate.

UPDATE #2:
The ship (CENK KAPTANOGLU, Istanbul) had been boarded.  The captain was impatient, expressed that it was taking a long time to inspect, and indicated might explode (which was like shouting "fire" in the crowded theater.)  This may be serious or may be stupid, and we don't take the chance.

Teams are going to board and search.  The captain was impatient before--now, he's out of port and the search is ON.  Serious or stupid, the teams are doing what they have to do, and will do.

UPDATE #1:

FOX

WASHINGTON — A report of a bomb aboard a Turkish merchant ship Thursday forced the U.S. Coast Guard (search) to escort the vessel away from the port of Philadelphia and out into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Delaware, senior Defense officials told FOX News.

The ship's master notified authorities about the possible bomb, officials said. The information was revealed after the captain refused to have portions of the ship searched by the Coast Guard.

Upon reaching a safe distance off the coast, officials planned to inspect the ship.

This particular vessel is well known to authorities and its prior movements have been tracked, senior Defense officials said.

TERROR/SKIES II

.

UPDATED:
Jacobsens (reportedly interviewed on MSNBC) were interviewed on CNN.  The Syrian "Band" has been checked out; but, Annie believes they may have been on a "dry run."  They were acting weird.  It was quietly reported.  The Jacobsens are letting people know what is out there.  We need to know.  And, we need to be alert; but, we don't need to run around wild or to panic.  The Jacobens did well.

We need to get over “fear of paranoia” and get on with the job.  Keep your eyes open; look for the weirdness.  No one takes pictures of the plane’s lavatory…weird.  When you visit the restroom, check it for strange articles or marks/damage.  There are more of US than of the terrorists.  WATCH FOR THE WEIRDNESS!  QUIETLY REPORT IT.

KURDO/OMAR ITM

.
(posted to Kurdo)
Kurdo,  there will be people outside Iraq who will stress the differences; they will purposely try to tear sections of Iraq away.  Some inside Iraq are trying to do the same.  When you stress the differences, it (sometimes) serves their purposes.  Their purposes are not what you and your fellow citizens need for Iraq.

One Iraqi looked at the Turkmenistan game with great pride in the ***Iraqi Team*** and cheered the victory.  He was saluting IRAQIS!!!

See Iraq the Model

Add more Kurds to those players.  Get your government candidates ready for the election.  There is much work to do….FOR IRAQ.

(posted to Omar, Iraq the Model)
Omar, your blog about the game gave me the opportunity to suggest to Kurdo (who blogged about the Uzbekistan game) that the team is Iraqi.  Kurdo is very sensitive to Arab Nationalism, and what is could mean to the Kurds.  During the Uzbekistan game, he kept switching from channel to channel and the announcers continued to refer to the Arab Iraqi Team.  But, you didn’t; you continuously said, “IRAQI TEAM”, “OUR TEAM.” (which prompted me to point this out to him)

The Kurds could and can make a tremendous contribution to Iraq.  They have worked hard; but, their fear is high.  It is important to continue to draw all Iraqis into the new Iraqi.  It is important for all Iraqis to be valued.  Is there something you could blog which would help?
